Ready to share: BV Gathering on October 16th.


The Beyond Verbal project, developed on new education and communication methods with a special focus on gender equality in early childhood education continues with a seminar and exhibition hosted by Barın Han on Saturday, October 16, accompanied by partners and participants from Denmark, Sweden, and Turkey.

The Beyond Verbal project, realized in partnership with three countries, Denmark, Sweden, and Turkey, Beyond Verbal is an art project bringing together contemporary visual artists and preschool educators and from Gellerup (Aarhus - Denmark), Rinkeby (Stockholm - Sweden), and TarlabaSı (Istanbul - Turkey) neighborhoods. It is built on the development of new education and communication methods, with a focus on gender equality in the preschool period for 0-6-year-olds. The project is realized with the support of Erasmus + Strategic Partnership. Its partners are the BIS association from Istanbul and PASAJ independent art space with its representation, Istanbul Kultur University, TellusBarn Schools from Sweden, KFT association, and Sigrids Situe art space from Denmark, Gellerup Library, and Gellerup Art Factory.

In the project, one artist from each country proposes, applies, and develops workshop methods with the consultancy of pre-school educators. Three consecutive workshops are implemented in participating preschools and nurseries both in three cities.

After the implementations of the 3 workshops developed by the contemporary visual artists Seçil Yaylalı (TR), Grete Aagard (DK), and Jenny Berntsson (SE), now, the outputs of the Beyond Verbal project is ready to be shared with conference and exhibition in Istanbul. There will also be workshops and book launches in Rinkeby and Aarhus in the coming months.

Speakers at the conference to be held at Barın Han on Saturday, October 16th at 3:30 PM are artist and art educator Jenny Berntsson, artist Seçil Yaylalı, academician Sevcan Yagan (Istanbul Kültür University - Preschool Education Department), academician, activist Nil Mutluer (Humboldt University - Diversity and Social Conflict Department). The structure of the project, which brings art, education, and science together with women artists and educators, encourages an inclusive approach in education with its sensitivity on gender equality, children's rights, and the concrete methods and workshops it offers to pre-school education institutions. The day ends up with a small workshop that is guided by Jenny Berntsson and Anna Strand to let the adults experience Beyond Verbal on their own.
